The Faculty of Engineering and Technology Library (Formerly the Botswana Polytechnic Library) became a branch of the University of Botswana Information System (UBLIS) on 1st January, 1996, following the incorporation of Botswana Polytechnic into the University of Botswana. It has relatively a small collection of about 8,000 titles and is currently subscribing to about 250periodicals and 10 databases on CD-ROM.
The library is partially automated as materials acquired since January 1996 can be accessed through a computerised OPAC. Records of materials acquired prior to 1996 are accessed through the card catalogue.
The library's mission is the same as that of UBLIS, which is to contribute to the University's endeavors in the advancement of learning and academic enquiry. It aims:
To foster a caring and supportive environment in which service to customer is paramount.
To maintain and develop a competent, friendly and responsive staff.
To select and acquire the best and affordable current and seminal world thought to support primarily the diversified academic and professional fields offered by the University and secondarily provide general support to national development.
To efficiently process, preserve provide access to and/or disseminate information available in-house or through international databases.
To equip customers with the necessary skills which allow them to exploit the various information sources in support of present and future needs.
To respond speedily and appropriately to academic support needs and expectation of students and faculty.
To provide facilities, programmes and procedures for security, care and preservation of UB Library resources.
To maintain administrative systems which allow the UBLIS to function efficiently.
To monitor and review services regularly with a view to developing and enhancing them.
Membership is open to all bona fide students of the University. Once registered, users can borrow materials from either libraries without restriction. Members of the public may join by supplying a guarantee from their employer, and paying P20.00 deposit plus P5.00 annual subscription. Membership fees are under review.
Heads of Departments are required to introduce new staff to the FET Librarian to facilitate registration with the Library. Students shall produce identity cards when registering with the library. Members of Affiliated Institutions shall produce official guarantee from the head of their Institution against any losses accrued by members. Admission to the library and the use of its facilities is a privilege and not a right.

There is a team of library staff whose primary responsibility is to help readers find the information they need in the quickest possible way. Get to know them.
Include Reference facilities; Inter-library Loan Service (ILL); Photocopying Service; CD-ROM Service; Current Awareness.
Materials in the Library are classified by Dewey Decimal Classification scheme.
The Reference Librarian at the Enquiries Desk or staff at the Circulation Desk would be happy to assist you. The card catalogue and OPAC list all publications in the library by Author, Title, OPAC can also be searched by Subject Group and keywords.
Books are arranged on the shelf by their class number. To find a book, look in the card catalogue or OPAC which are located on the ground floor.
Bound Periodicals are shelved separately on the ground floor. Current periodicals are displayed on the top floor. To find a periodical look up the title in the printed Holdings List available at circulation or enquiries desk.
Previous years' examination papers are kept in the reserve collection behind the circulation desk.
Theses and dissertations are located in the Botswana Collection, Main Library on the second floor. FET student reports are kept in the reserve section behind the circulation desk.
British standards and South African Bureau of Standards are locate behind the circulation desk and currently shelved according to their standard numbers. SPECIFILE (construction industry marketing information) hard copy products can also be found behind the circulation desk.
When registered as a member of the library the following regulations apply: TYPE OF NO. LENGTH OF READER OF LOAN LOANS POCKETS Undergraduate 7 1 month Part time Students 4 1 month Postgraduate 10 1 month Academic Staff 15 3 months Part time Lecturers 8 3 months Non Academic Staff 4 1 month External Borrowers 2 1 month Affiliated Institutions 4 1 month Items borrowed must be returned on or before the due date to avoid fines. Overdue books and pamphlets accumulate fines at the rate of 10 thebe per day. Overdue bound periodicals and reserve materials accumulate fines at the rate of P1.00 per hour or part there of from 9.00 am on the due date. Fines for recalled material accumulate at the rate of 10 thebe per day effective one week from the date of recall. Fines must be paid promptly. Unpaid fines are referred to the Bursar's office for students and staff. External readers may face suspension for unpaid fines. All borrowed items are renewable unless booked by another reader. Bound periodicals may be borrowed overnight or over the weekend. Current issues may only be used in the library.
