The University of Botswana in collaboration with the European Union will hold a public lecture entitled A Bridge over Troubled Waters – The European Union in Times of Resurgent Nationalism at the UB Conference Centre on April 11, 2017.

Synopsis - The European Union celebrated its 60th birthday on 25th March this year, the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, which marks the beginning of the European integration. Four days later, on 29th March, the United Kingdom triggered the BREXIT, the process of departure from the Union. Is the European Union, the most successful peace project in history, falling apart?  Where is the Union today and where is it going? Ambassador Baum will give insights into the European project, its ambitions and challenges, and explains the implications for the rest of the world. 
 
Guest Speaker - Alexander Baum, EU Ambassador to Botswana and SADC
 
Discussant - Professor Emmanuel Botlhale, Associate Professor in Public Administration in the Department of Political and Administrative Studies in the University of Botswana. Teaching and research interests: public finance, financial administration, project management, public policy and governance.
