Welcome to the University of Botswana’s Centre for the Study of HIV and AIDs
The UB Centre for the Study of HIV and AIDS was established in November 2006. The Centre’s primary purpose is to support and encourage an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing the challenges HIV and AIDS have presented to the nation. lll
Research, teaching, and service are all part of mission of the Centre.
Research: We support the research activities of faculty, staff, and students by maintaining a directory of UB faculty and staff who are conducting HIV/AIDS-related research. We also maintain a small library of HIV/AIDS related books and publications that is available for loan to faculty, staff, and students. Members of the Centre’s staff can also advise faculty about possible sources of funding to support their research and assist them by reviewing drafts of grant applications and of research being sent out for publication review. For researchers from outside the University or the country, the Centre can serve as an initial point of contact for those interested in topics related to the study of HIV and AIDS.
Teaching: We support the teaching activities of faculty and the learning activities of students by consulting with faculty who wish to include information related to HIV/AIDS in the context of specific courses they are teaching. We also are developing a “Speaker’s Bureau” listing that faculty can draw on when seeking guest speakers for their classes. The Centre’s academic staff are also available to consult with students who may be conducting research on HIV/AIDS-related topics.
Service: The Centre is a resource for the community, for NGOs, and for Government whenever information is needed about HIV/AIDS research being done at UB. We can also help to facilitate collaborations between community organizations and faculty and students on HIV/AIDS-related activities.
