PHYSICAL PLANNING PROJECTS

 

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING PROJECT

Start date: September 2008

Anticipated Completion Date: October 2012

Size: Approximately 16, 000 sq.m

The facility will consist of 4 buildings in a quadrangle.  The Administration block will house general classrooms, offices and computer laboratories.  

The other 3 buildings will house state of the art studios, workshops and specialised research laboratories in the areas of Architecture & Planning; Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering and Industrial design & technology.

 

ADMINISTRATION BUILDING EXPANSION

Completion Date: 25 June 2013 

Size: 6, 524 sq.m

 

 

The Administration Building expansion comprises of five (05) floors including the basement. The extension forms an abutment to the existing building on the western side. The project aims to provide additional offices in the Administration block.  A total of approximately fifty (50) standard offices will be accommodated in the expansion. In addition to the standard offices there will be open plan offices covering a total area of approximately 580 square meters. Meeting and/or conference rooms are also provided under the project. The basement will primarily be used for parking and will provide about 22 parking spaces. 

 

 

RENOVATION OF THE OLD STUDENT CENTRE BUILDING

Completion date:  3 September 2012

Size: 3, 949 sq.m.

The renovation project is an ongoing project to convert the old student centre into an academic building to house the expanding Faculty of Humanities.  

The building comprises of 48 offices, music and drama practice rooms, a computer laboratory, catalogue and classification laboratory, conservation and restoration laboratory and the new central reprographic centre.

 

INDOOR SPORTS FACILITY

Start date: 29 September 2009

Anticipated Completion Date: 30 June 2013

Size: 6000-seater facility

The sports centre will provide cutting edge facilities for sports research.  It will used as a teaching, research and recreational facility.  There will be a performance stage, various sports courts including squash, gymnasium, aerobics, weight lifting and a sports science laboratory and a number of changing facilities.  

 

THE TEACHING HOSPITAL

Projected Completion Date: Mid 2013

 

 

The facility is designed as a modern academic 450-bed hospital that will be providing practical clinical training for medical students.  It will contain offices and research laboratories.  

It will be a referral hospital with some provision for emergency care.

 

UB CONFERENCE CENTRE

Start date: November 2011

Scheduled Completion Date: October 2013

Size: 3, 698 sq.m

 

The conference centre will be a stand-alone state of the art facility which will provide training facilities for the university staff and external clients. It consists of a purpose built 200 seat auditorium, a video conferencing room,  a variety of board rooms, meeting and assessment rooms.  It will also contain offices, 70 rooms to accommodation patrons and catering facilities in the form of bar, restaurant and kitchen.
