Message From The Chairman

Satar DadaDear Friends of the University of Botswana Foundation,

Greetings and a warm welcome to the website of the University of Botswana Foundation. On behalf of the UB Foundation's Board of Trustees, I invite you to explore our website, interact with us, and get involved in a noble course of advancing Higher Education in Botswana. The UB Foundation, founded in 2000, is the philanthropic arm of the University of Botswana with the mandate to advance, promote, and support the mission and the vision of the University of Botswana as a leading Academic Centre of Excellence in Africa and the world. This mandate is realized through friend-raising, fundraising, and partnerships with the public, the private sector, and other stakeholders to raise funds for graduate scholarships at the University of Botswana.

The University of Botswana, established in 1982, was founded on a Campus Appeal campaign of 1976 drawn upon our national culture of philanthropy, self-reliance and sacrifice. It is upon these foundations that the University has created an enabling environment that continues to provide leadership for our nation’s cultural, economic, political, scientific, social, technological and industrial needs: imparting a culture that inspires a commitment to life-long mastery of learning skills and the spirit of critical enquiry. Many of Botswana’s past and present high ranking captains of commerce and industry, including government ministers are products of the University of Botswana.

Thanks to the dedication and commitment of the UB Foundation's Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers, the foundation continues to contribute significantly to the university's achievements and has positioned itself to provide an even greater level of support in helping the University to achieve its vision of becoming a leading academic centre of excellence in Africa and the world.

The University of Botswana Foundation is indeed poised to continue to grow and flourish as the fundraising arm for the University of Botswana in its quest to advance the vision of the University of Botswana. Through your support - corporate and private contributions - the University of Botswana will continue to change lives within campus, and the wider community in many ways.

On behalf of the UB Foundation and the Board of Trustees, I thank you for your commitment and investment in the University of Botswana Foundation. We are grateful for your support. If you have any questions or wish to get involved, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Mr. A. S. Dada
Chairman, Board of Trustees
University of Botswana Foundation

Message From the DirectorDr. Baagi Mmereki

Dear Friends, Alumni and students of the University of Botswana

Welcome to the University of Botswana Foundation (UBF) website. Whether you are a prospective or current student, a staff member, an alumnus of the University of Botswana or an interested visitor, I hope you will find this site informative and user-friendly.

The University of Botswana Foundation is a non-profit Trust intended to engage the public, the private sector, and other stakeholders in partnerships with the University of Botswana. UB Foundation was established to assist the University of Botswana in meeting the goal of building an educated and informed nation as envisioned in Botswana’s Vision 2016. The UB Foundation was officially launched on March 24th 2000 by the then Chancellor of the University of Botswana, and former President of the Republic of Botswana, Mr Festus Gontebanye Mogae.

The Foundation raises funds through a number of activities such as the annual Dinner Dance and the annual Golf tournament to grow an Endowment Fund. Currently, over BWP4.1 million has accumulated in the Fund as a result of donations, pledges of support and accrued interest. Each year a portion of interest earnings are distributed to graduate student scholarships. This academic year (August 2010 to May 2011), approximately BWP360,000.00 was distributed to award recipients. The School of Graduate Studies administers the selection process for these funds in collaboration with Faculties and Academic departments.

I invite you to further explore who we are through the medium of this website. I also invite you to invest in us by either contributing to or sponsoring one of our fundraising activities, partnering with us for a named scholarship, and making a pledge to expand your corporate / personal social responsibility ideals. I would like to make a special appeal to the Alumni of the University of Botswana to fully engage with us in our alumni activities and continue the spirit of our national culture of philanthropy, self-reliance and sacrifice for higher education funding towards an informed nation by 2016. If you require more information or have any feedback for us about this site or anything else related to our mission, I encourage you to contact us.
